Education and Teaching
We love sharing volcanology research, and science in general, with the public.
We participate in public events in the New York area, give demonstrations of our
Fluid Mechanics lab to school classes visiting LDEO, visit schools on Career Days, mentor high-school students in science competition projects, and judge student presentations at the New York City Science Fair.

Volcano demonstration at the LDEO Open House event
During the 2017 IAVCEI General Assembly meeting, Mike James (Lancaster), Christopher Hamilton (Arizona) and I led a workshop about using UAVs in Volcanology. The workshop included a hands-on exercise about creating digital topography models from photographs collected by a UAV using Agisoft Photoscan.

Note: Running the exercise requires a working copy of Agisoft Photoscan Pro, available on the Agisoft website. A free demo version is available.
